Pittsburghers deserve the improvements in service and reliability that our capital investment projects deliver — from reducing the occurrence of water main breaks, to an ever-increasing level of trust that their taps will be safely, reliably flowing each day.
Our ambitious 5-year $1.2 billion Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) will add needed redundancy, improve service reliability, and help us continue to protect water quality and public health. Projects benefiting from this investment include lead service line and water main replacements, Water Treatment Plant improvements and upgrades, and projects in our multi-generational Water Reliability Plan.
To advance critical infrastructure projects while minimizing the financial burden on ratepayers, Pittsburgh Water actively secures external funding from state and federal sources. Last year, we received more than $95 million in low-interest loans and $35 million in grant funding. Since 2018, we’ve received over $860 million in low-interest loans and nearly $147 million in grants through PENNVEST, supporting major upgrades to our water distribution system, lead service line replacements, water main improvements, and sewer rehabilitation.
